Camarillo Shelter

The main county animal shelter and administrative offices are located at 600 Aviation Drive in Camarillo, California, on the Camarillo airport complex. The facility was built in 1985 and can house approximately 400 animals with accommodations for birds, livestock, and exotic animals as well as our most frequent guests: dogs and cats.

Nearly every animal that comes through our door has one common bond: lack of owner identification. As much as we care about your animal, we would rather not care for it here. By identifying your pet with a valid license tag and microchip implant you will do your pet, and your community, a great service.

Adoption services are available during Counter Hours. Our adoption policy states that adoptions are on a "first come, first served" basis, but if two or more people desire to adopt the same animal at the time the shelter opens, or if two persons simultaneously desire to adopt an animal, a drawing will be held to determine who is allowed to adopt.

We do not allow any person, for any reason, to 'reserve' or otherwise arrange for advance adoptions. However, there are circumstances under which animals are released early to approved 501 (c) 3 Animal Rescue organizations. Our employees and their immediate family are prohibited from adopting an animal unless the animal has had at least one day's adoption eligibility to the general public.

We provide services that include the impounding of: stray animals; injured strays; wildlife that is presenting a traffic hazard; public nuisance or health risk; stray and unwanted livestock or fowl; nuisance animal investigations; bite investigations and quarantines; license sales and rabies vaccination clinics; euthanasia and disposal services; and assistance with animal evacuations during disasters. We do not provide spaying and neutering, kennel services, microchip services or veterinary care to the general public.

Our telephone operators are available between 7am and 6pm Monday through Friday, and between 8am and 4pm on weekends (Phone Numbers 1-888-223-PETS or (805) 388-4341). Our public counter hours are quite different, and we suggest you go to Hours of Operation for details.
